He said some players would improve because they voluntarily improved. And Ty’s schedule fits in perfectly. He’s ready to take on the challenge. Garcia teaches at the school as well and is the head boys’ basketball coach. He played for the Lancers during his sophomore and junior years. He later became an assistant coach at Carthage High School. Garcia replaces Brandon Morris, who coached St. Joseph’s for two seasons. While he remains in touch with the school, he also wants to make an impact on the community.
South Dakota State
If you’re a college basketball fan in the midwest, you’ve probably heard of South Dakota State. This midmajor program competes in both the NCAA Division I and the Football Championship Subdivision. It’s part of the Summit League and the Missouri Valley Football Conference. The Jackrabbits have won numerous conference titles and several national titles, including the 2003 NCAA Division II championship. In addition to its basketball success, South Dakota State also fields a soccer team and a baseball team.
The Jackrabbits have some long-range shooters. As a team, they’re shooting 44.7% from three-point range entering the tournament. That’s worse than Indiana’s 45.4% in 1993-94. Baylor Scheierman leads South Dakota State in shooting percentage with 47.7%, while Charlie Easley and Alex Arians are among the team’s top scorers.
The Jackrabbits have been hot lately, with a 21-game win streak. Their only loss was against Missouri State last Dec. 15. They’ve also only lost four games by five points or less. This streak should be enough to push them to the second round. But they must beat Providence in the second round to advance. Otherwise, they’ll eliminate. This is not a team to take lightly.

The arena is currently undergoing an ambitious plan to upgrade the facility to accommodate the growing number of sports teams. Plans for a multi-court arena are already in the works. The Jackrabbits’ baseball team plays at Erv Huether Field, which has seating for 600 fans. It has a capacity of 19,340 for football and basketball games.
